More Spinning - Comanche Moon

Last Wednesday (5th Dec '07) I received a big parcel from the lovely Copperpot. Inside it was my order of roving. I decided to start spinning the Comanche Moon blend pictured below.


I'm about a third of the way though the 4.2 ounce (119 grams) 'ball' and I've loving how the colours mix and just how soft it is. I've spun off some of it from the spindle onto a plastic tube I found lying around. I have no idea what I'm going to do with this after I ply it together but I thinking of making a patchwork blanket with all the different wool that I've spun. I'll post photos of the progress of this lovely batch.

Spinning - First Attempt

During mid October I started spinning my first 4 ounce bag ( 113 grams) of merino wool roving, although the below pictures are made up of 2 bags (8.3 ounces - 235 grams). I was given the roving although I can't give the credit to making up this beautiful blend, that honour belongs to the lovely Copperpor Woolies on Etsy. This blend is called Tidal Wave

It's hard to take photos of skeins and get the correct colours but I'm trying. And just for interest this is how Tidal Wave looks in its 'raw' state.

Beginnings

I have decided to start a blog dedicated to my crafty hobbies; crocheting, embrodiery, cross stitch and my most recent hobby - hand spinning yarn.


A bit about me:

I'm a 25 year old Australian female born and raised in a small town on the east coast of New South Wales. I learnt the very basics of knitting when I was about 8 (garter stitch and that was about it) but never really got the hang of purling no matter how hard I tried. When I was about 13 I learnt how to crochet granny squares and just before I was 14 made my first blanket. Around the same time I did my first cross stitch and embrodiery under my grandmother's watchful eye.

Since then I have kept up with most of the crafts (aparts from knitting) and enjoyed learning the odd new thing. Recently I was introduced to drop spindle spinning and have found a new crafty obsession. I plan to share photos and stories in this blog.
